Glutathione is a part of a critical detoxifying and antioxidant enzyme system.
BIOLOGICAL FUNCTION & EFFECT:
• assists in detoxification of cigarette smoke, ethanol, aspirin and acetaminophen
• reduces free radical damage due to radiation
• fatty acid synthesis
• facilitates development and function of immune cells, including macrophages and lymphocytes
• EFFECTS OF DEPLETION
Glutathione depletion could result in hair loss and baldness.
• SOURCES
Asparagus, walnuts, fresh fruits, raw vegetables, fish and meat.
• NOTES
Glutathione must be in its reduced form to be active. Some manufacturers do not indicate if their product is reduced. The reduced form of glutathione is cheaper but not metabolically active.
Glutathione has no toxicity.
