Vitamin B3

Niacin — vitamin B3 — is a water-soluble vitamin that functions metabolically as a component of two important co-enzymes: nicotinamide adenine and dinucleotide.


BIOLOGICAL FUNCTION & EFFECT:

• B3 is critical in supplying energy to — and maintaining function of — every cell in the body

• B3 reduces LDL (”bad” cholesterol) and triglycerides and increases HDL (“good” cholesterol)

• B3 has anti-anxiety activity

• B3 has been identified as part of the glucose tolerance factor of yeast which enhances responses to insulin


• EFFECTS OF DEPLETION

Severe deficiency of B3 (niacin) is known as pellagra, a serious end-stage disease.

Lean meat, poultry, fish, peanuts, organ meats, brewer's yeast, milk, legumes, and peanut butter
